Based on real events, Fire in the Sky is one of the few alien abduction films that draws the viewer in without coming across as completely fake and forced. The story of alien abductee Travis Walton, Fire in the Sky takes the unusual approach of focusing most of the film on those left behind, his friends who are left to deal with the fallout of his disappearance and the inevitable questions and suspicions that it raises. After a harrowing week, Travis returns, unable to break through and let friends and family understand what hes been through. The viewer gets only faint glimpses of his time away until one harrowing flashback at the end that gives a brief taste of the horrors he endured. By focusing on the human elements of the story instead of the fantastical ones, and through some incredible acting performances, Fire in the Sky really connects well with the average viewer. It’s that much easier to put ourselves into the shoes of any of the people involved and the movie is well done enough that even a person who doesn’t believe in such things can really be drawn in. Definitely worth checking out for everyone from sci-fi fans to fans of good drama suspense.
