You know those movies that you loved from your childhood that you get all excited to finally see again after all these years? You know how a lot of them seemed a whole lot cooler when you were a kid and just don’t live up to your memories? Here’s another one.
If you’ve never seen it, a group of kids – themselves fascinated by monsters – must watch wits with Dracula and his crew: the Wolfman, the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein’s Monster. Victory means banishing the creatures of the night to Limbo for good, defeat means that evil is free to rule the world!
I sat my kids down with it, telling them it was basically The Goonies, but with monsters. Well, those classic monsters don’t hold the same magic for my jaded kids as they did when I was their age. The kids themselves are fun, the acting is good and the dialogue is actually pretty spot on for a “tween” movie. There’s a decent mix of humor to keep it lively even in the face of the end of the world as well. This is a fun movie. If you’re a child of the 80s who missed it, it is definitely worth checking out. If you’re looking for that monster movie that you can actually sit down and watch with your kids, give this a shot.
